Superbly put...I would couple your idea with Eddie Obeng's sticky step planning techniques...essentially what you are suggesting written on post it notes...Eddie also suggests working back from the future .

I used the second part 20-odd years ago with a supplier that I desperately needed to deliver a commodity product they did not have on their shelf with deadline and he said it could never be done. I just said "Work with me: Imagine I have it in my hands on Tuesday. How did that happen?".  Suddenly he came up with several things he could try ... I had it delivered - and paid him a bit extra on the invoice! Didn't think of using the first part, so a great learning point not to stop at the first success :-)
